“What is the secret of the chorus? I find myself in the midst of a group of people—teenagers or citizens of all ages. Mind you, these are not actors, musicians, or dancers. They are people with no prior stage experience. What is the secret that allows this undifferentiated group to transform into a chorus—a vessel for harmony, vitality, and energy?…
It is simple; I can sum it up with an African proverb: ‘I am we.’ Everything else stems from that.”
Nine years after his book *Farsi luogo* (“Becoming a Place”)—which has been translated and published in France, Belgium, Germany, and Romania—Marco Martinelli (a seven-time Ubu Award winner for his work in directing, playwriting, and pedagogy) returns to reflect on his thirty years of theatrical experience in “bringing life to the stage,” offering us a veritable “map” of his work with large groups.
At the Teatro dei Coraggiosi, the author will give voice to his work—a narrative that is simultaneously a reflection, in which poetry and the body take center stage in a mysterious process of fusion between the singular and the plural.
